Subject:
Meeting on Oct 15, Records Transfer
Dear Sheridan,
Thanks for
your letter
today scheduling a meeting on Oct 15,
That's great!
..
PLease let me know a time, preferably between 10a and 1p in order to
minimize traffic issues, and the name of the doctor or other check in
procedure. If this is in the docs you submitted, please direct my
attention.
..
Yesterday, Doctor Johnson explained a procedure for contacting the Business
Office at Kaiser in Walnut Creek to arrange for transferring medical
records. Your letter today includes an attached file "Oncology New Patient
Records Checklist." As mentioned in my letter yesterday, I will be at
Kaiser tomorrow. Do I just hand this checklist to Kaiser, and they then
provide everything UCSF needs?
..
For example, another document you submitted,
Welcome to the UCSF...
says
in part,
Please Provide... actual glass pathology slides of any biopsy...
During the meeting with Doctor Johnson yesterday, I asked about transfer
of test data, and he seemed to indicate that a 2nd opinion would only require
text reports prepared by analysts that explain and interpret
data, rather than the actual films, slides and so forth that seem to be
listed as required in the material you submitted today. Frankly, I am
pleased that the 2nd Opinion process looks at the data for a fresh interpretation,
rather than rely on prior work product. But, this presents issues on both
scope of transfer, and on cost.
..
Since you have many referrals from Kaiser, then transferring records has
been established by precedent, but want to clarify scope of what is needed
in order to avoid delay. This is one reason I wanted Doctor Johnson to
take the lead on the 2nd opinion project, because there can be more direct
coordination on these admin issues.
..
Your letter that begins, "Dear Breast Care Center..., sets out
cost factors,
and looks like we could be looking at $5K - $15K, especially, if new tests are
needed. Do you have a ballpark idea of cost for referrals on IBC patients?
