Subject:   OmniKey key caps

Rod,

Here is the current info on this [shown in a letter from a vendor]
..
I can't seem to get at any DIP switches on my keyboard, but they are mentioned, and I seem to remember dealing with them,. So I still have further investigation to do.

Thanks,

Sincerely,

I have a Focus 5001 keyboard that appears to be a private labeled OmniKey Ultra. It at least looks like the pictures.

Do you recognize this keyboard?

If it is the same, do you have the key caps that would allow me to move the Caps Lock, Control, and Alt keys?

I want Ctrl next to F6 where the Cap Lock is now, Alt where Ctrl is now (next to F10), and Caps Lock where Alt is now. Is this something I can do myself? I assume I need the cap puller tool.

..
I am familiar with Focus keyboards (but I'm not sure if I've seen a 5001). They used the same high quality Alps Switches and double molded keycaps (like OmniKeys) but I don't think they have the DIP switch option to move the control key position. I have keycaps that will physically fit - but just changing the keycaps does not change the key's function. If you can figure out how to change the keys functions - I can supply the keycaps. Do you have a good program to test the keyboard - if not, I can send you a nice little (freeware) program if you still have a computer that can run plain old a DOS program.
..
If you can't make the computer believe that the CapsLock key is a Control key (as it is now), than changing the keycaps is useless. If you can figure it out, I'll sell you new set of Ctrl & CapsLock keycaps with puller for $10 + $2.00 S+H (add $3.00 ($15 total) for Priority Mail service).

TTYL
