Dear Tom,
Thanks for your letter today indicating you cannot review my NSF proposal.
Analysis in the record shows you have unique qualifications for this assignment; so, it is disappointing that you cannot do it. I called today and spoke to Darrel about you contacting Steve Pinker, as suggested by Sarah Nerlove at NSF. Darrel explained professional differences render contact untennable. That may explain why your work is not cited in Steve's book, who mentions Crick and Miller among others. I looked and looked, and sent Steve a note asking: What about Landauer? But, I did not hear from him. What a shame that a big and growing need for your important work to improve the practice of management, cannot be supported by the people who are discovering the insights essential for progress.
Possibly you might suggest somone else who has the requisite expertise to perform this review. Thanks for your consideration, and for your accomplishments that make progress possible.
Sincerely,
THE WELCH COMPANY
Rod Welch
