Subject: NSF Effort: Rough Outline of My Proposal

Hi Rod:

[Per your letter copied to me - things are...] Going pretty well.

I started a new task on the SAIC contract with DISA in late March. I'm now providing System and Software Engineering and Architecture support to the DoD Global Command and Control System (GCCS). The task involves GCCS Engineering process modeling, guiding the transition of the GCCS program to the new ANSI 632 System Engineering Process and IEEE 12207 Software Life Cycle Process, providing technology insertion support to improve GCCS Documentation, and working on the GCCS 4.0 Engineering team.

Needless to say, I've been rather busy. For example, I've put in 48 hours of work since this past Friday at 1700 hrs to put together a white paper on the lack up support for LDAP, XML, and the DMTF Common Information Model in the new DII Common Operating Environment (COE) on which GCCS and other Defense and Federal systems depend. These three areas are within my area of expertise so the COE System Engineering Working Group (SEWG) asked me to start it going as the primary author.

This is useful because it corresponds closely to what I'm putting into the NSF request. I'm still formulating the proposal. My copyrighted initial proposal outline (with annotations [] of where I see your technique fitting) follows. [see linked record]

Let me know where you'd like to integrate your concepts.

Again, this information is copyrighted. You may distribute the outline for comment, contributions, and marshalling of support and parters (e.g., put it on the Web) if it is accompanied by my copyright statement: "Copyright Roy Roebuck, 1982-1999, Arlington, VA".

I am ready to turn on a limited access threaded discussion, on my website, where we may begin to flesh out the proposal.

Sincerely,

Roy
