Subject:   SDS at SRI; Expediting Hyperscope

[Responding to your letter to Doug Engelbart on January 11, 2001...]

Well, Rod, SDS isn't representative of a *perfect* memory. Here's a chunk [from the record on January 11, 2001...] that's not really reflective of facts:

242232 - Progress on Hyperscope architecture might be expedited by
242233 - diverting Jack Park and Pat Lincoln's brother, Brian, from converting
242234 - Augment NLS to JAVA, to instead work on the Hyperscope.
242235 -
242236 - Doug said he is not aware that Jack and Brian are working on this
242237 - task.
242238 -
242239 - We reviewed the record on the event held at SRI on 001220 honoring
242240 - Doug's award for the National Medal of Technology. Pat Lincoln
242241 - reported at that time that Jack and Brian are doing this task, and
242242 - Jack confirmed it. ref SDS 32 BV3W"

Pat wrote me to ask what was happening with java augment. I reported back to him that indeed, Howard and I had a low priority background project going and that I had met with Doug and began to mine the augment help screens, and Howard had begun to sketch out an ontology using Protege.

At the party you mention, I asked Pat of his interest. His brother's name came up. I said that I thought that was a great idea to include him in the project. That is as far as things have gone. I do not believe that I confirmed that Brian and I were at work on the project, rather that some discussion with Pat had occured.

About diverting us to HyperScope, that's the first time I'd heard about that, though I am always working on things HyperScope related.

Cheers,

Jack
