Dear Terry,
Thanks very much for your letter yesterday with directions to your office, and providing background on your work to prepare for the meeting. Based on this information, would like to meet on Wednesday at 1000 in your office.
You offered a lot of thoughtful analysis that took time for review, and provides important issues to take up.
Your paper on Language/Action Perspective.... shows considerable alignment with aspects of Communication Metrics supported by SDS, so this seems like a good basis to meet, as suggested by Doug Engelbart on Monday. Considering cognitive science along with management science and technology shown in your paper seems to me is essential for moving from information to a culture of knowledge. Many people are reticent about this integration, so your thinking is important to move forward.
As shown in the record yesterday, I have considered questions you asked and am pleased to pursue them in greater depth. For example, I, too, am curious about SDS and NLS, and so join you to invite Doug's comments on his perspective.
I would like to focus our meeting on ways and means for education to advance literacy using SDS, as set out in my letter on Monday. Doug calls this co-evolution. I am of course open to tackling any of the many issues you raised in your letter yesterday. They are all important, but each requires careful attention in order to make progress. We can't do them all in one meeting. Possibly this first meeting can go through the record on June 14, 2001 explaining SDS support for education, and this may clear up some of the issues on handling the SDS environment.
Thanks again for your comments. Look forward to meeting you next Wednesday. Jack Park has advised he cannot attend. By copy will extend invitation to Doug again. (Now, if we can just avoid jury duty....)
Sincerely,
THE WELCH COMPANY
