Subject:   Coretalk, Klausen Inquiry about SDS

Dear Morris,

Got a call this morning from Sandy Klausen who says he has developed $10M so far to do a KM project, and expressed interest in SDS based on traffic he has seen on the DKR project, including the record of our meeting on May 17, 2000 with Eric Armstrong. Sandy said this morning that Eric is close to joining their project. He also says he met at Intel in March with two of your top people and the head of EE at UCB. It sounded like he discussed a processor design. His business plan sounds like XML software, which he feels can be aided by improvements to microprocessors.

Sandy sent a follow up letter submitting a powerpoint file and a non-disclosure form. The PP file is very general -- basically his business pitch. In our call, Sandy described some of his ideas about atomic data structure; and, I interjected that it sounds complicated, that SDS has a particular design that does not require that support, but it might be helpful to render it in that mode. He asked for literature, so I pointed him at POIMS, which led to his follow up letter.

Have you heard of Sandy or his ideas?

He says the ball is in my court, so I sent him a letter with preliminary comments.

My letter bounced back, indicating his email is full. I could not get a phone number for him, so I am going ahead and asking for your comments, if you have time.

Sincerely,

THE WELCH COMPANY
