Subject Maps Helpful |
Dear Jack,
Responding to your letter today expressing concern that Welch claims ownership of linking text as intellectual property; certainly, Welch makes no claim to "linking," per se. There might be an innovation in the ability to use dynamic linking in conjunction with dynamic subject structures, as helpful aspects of a dynamic knowledge management environment for implementing connectionist theory to augment human intelligence, pretty much as a matter of volition.
We have already agreed about the importance of organic subject structure. I think this feature of SDS can greatly benefit from the ability to render graphical maps, which you discussed last Friday, cited in your letter, in TSC, and cite again in your Powerpoint file today. I also note that this is is an extremely difficult problem. We are not going to get a total "solution," for the reasons set out in POIMS. But, we can improve, by an order of magnitude, present practice, and that can help everyone do a better job in daily life, addressing problems large and small.
I would like to discuss a couple points on editing the record. I have no objections; just want to clarify scope, when time permits, keeping in mind this will ultimately be an urgent issue to resolve constructively down the road.
Sincerely,
THE WELCH COMPANY
Rod Welch
