Subject:   Questions on SDS redundant links

Rod,

You ask about better ways to implement redundant links in SDS at....

http://www.welchco.com/sd/08/00101/02/02/03/13/070849.HTM#HX7N

1. Make the link invisible and implied, so that it does not clutter up the screen, but is accessible by moving the pointer over the beginning of a paragraph where an anchor is likely to be.
..
This can be done by any of:

  1. Setting the anchor style to be the same as the paragraph style (no underscores)
    ..
  2. Including the first word or first few words in the anchor, which is currently empty. Since this would make all the links look different, I think the double dots are a better idea.

At...

http://www.welchco.com/sd/08/00101/02/02/03/13/070849.HTM#8451
..
2. Modify the copy link feature that comes with the browser so it will copy the link merely by recognizing an anchor, and thus eliminate redundant code in the original file?

This requires either access to the browser code or writing a plugin. While possible, it means having to support code that gets sent to each person accessing the record (which can be done with JavaScript or Java Applets if needed) and support for all variety of different browsers. I don't think this is realistic to attempt at this time.
..
Thanks,
..
Sincerely,
