Subject:   SDS for Education

Sorry about the late reply. The combination of semester finals and a cold shut me down for a bit there.

Michael,

Thanks for your inquiry about SDS. I apologize for raving, try to leave that to others, however, I do think SDS can be helpful in ways that are not otherwise available. On 001121 submitted ideas for Doug's team meeting at SRI to use SDS so they learn about KM, based on a call from Doug Engelbart who asked about this.....

Note that the idea is to make the thing available to a group, because it will require training and support to transition from IT to KM, and for now I am the only person who can do this. It is not feasible for me to train and support just one person,

I typically am a self-sufficient user - give me a manual and I figure out my problem somehow. However if you think that SDS is too complex for that then I understand.

so we are sort of stuck on trying to get a group of folks to jump into the deep water of KM. If you are a student at a university, and your school wants to take up SDS as a project for improving the quality of education, per the letter to Elisabeth Pate-Cornell at Stanford, on 000929....

...we can discuss that idea. Where are you attending school, and what are your academic interests?

Right now I'm finishing up my last semester of High School. Due to my financial situation I can't afford to anywhere else than Arizona State University, not my first choice.

My declared major is Computer Science, but I'd like to focus on information and library sciences. Right now I plan to transfer out of ASU as soon as I can get funding to go to a better school, preferably Stanford.

Right now I work for an amazing group of librarians and technical personal at the high school. I have always been interested in the library sciences and associated information science concepts. This is why BI and the Colloquium appealed to me; joining has let me get several birds with one stone.

Eventually I'd like to tackle the definition of knowledge question. I don't expect a concrete answer, but the field is rather sparse and nobody else has anything really good yet..

Sincerely,

Hi, this is Michael Crusoe from the unrev-ii list.

I've heard you rave on about SDS and I'm quite impressed with it's effects on your output. What would it take for me to use or demo SDS?

Also, does it require my own server, or do you offer hosting?

Thank you for your time,
