I thought people on this list would find this amusing (or ironic) given the history of Augment.

Doug, maybe this means they finally realized how much they need you!

Sincerely,

X-DBWorld-Deadline: 31-Aug-2000

Boeing's R&D lab in Seattle has several job openings for researchers in Databases, Data Warehousing, Data Mining, Digital Libraries, Work Flow and Collaborative Technologies. The R&D lab provides a stimulating and challenging multi-disciplinary research environment to innovate and apply cutting-edge IT research solutions to large practical problems in the aerospace industry.

The Information Management and Collaborative Technologies group has openings for outstanding researchers in the following areas:

Positions are open at senior and junior levels. Ideal candidates for the senior level would have a PhD in a related area and a proven ability to define and lead projects at the frontiers of research together with publications in top journals and conferences. Positions at the junior level require an advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) and proven implementation skills of proof-of- concept prototypes.

MORE ABOUT THE LAB:

The lab of 250 researchers is engaged in research in many areas of Computer Science and Mathematics including Information Management and Collaborative Technologies, Distributed Software Systems, Communications, Neural Networks and Intelligent Systems, Agent Technologies, Security etc. The lab provides an opportunity to participate in exciting multi-disciplinary research cutting across a number of technologies. For example, Spatial DB research is combined with haptics research to develop an advanced CAT- Haptics system featured in a recent article about the lab in Computer World:

Boeing, with more than 200,000 employees, produces several hundred airplanes a year; the information that needs to be managed and shared is of the order of several peta bytes and the collaboration required spans not only Boeing employees but enterprises around the world. It is said that Boeing accounts for 10% of all the data on the internet. When top- notch industrial products are used in the Boeing company, often the sheer scale, volume, diversity and distribution of data requires that the IT products be modified or extended with advanced solutions to scale up. Researchers at the lab collaborate with the top IT vendor companies, and with universities and research labs around the world.

SALARY & COMPENSATION:

Boeing offers a very competitive salary and compensation package, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
